Nuestra Gente Community Projects, Inc. (NGCPI) is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization on a mission to improve the lives of Toledo’s underserved communities. Founded in Toledo in November, 2008, to serve the Hispanic/Latino community, it has since expanded its mission and objectives for the inclusion of all community members in need. NGCPI embraces and values the innumerable benefits of a diverse community working together for the progress of all. NGCPI is a champion for education, health, and the overall enrichment of life in Lucas County, Ohio.

We have previously conducted research on Hispanic communities in Northwest Ohio, including a successful project funded by the Ohio Humanities Council that was covered on regional media and shared across Ohio by the Ohio Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs. We have a growing presence in Toledo’s Old South End and East Side, with the ongoing renovation of the Nuestra Gente Community Center, the opening of a weekly food pantry, and the launch of the Semillitas series of bilingual after-school and summer break programs.

Nuestra Gente’s core mission is to build a healthier, more vibrant Hispanic community, centered in South Toledo. Our mission began with free transportation, translation and interpretation services for migrant families, health screenings and an annual art festival in South Toledo but soon expanded to serving food-insecure residents with the opening of the Nuestra Gente 419-Food Pantry in the Nuestra Gente Community Center on Broadway Street. In the last decade, our programs have served hundreds of Toledoans of all cultural backgrounds in service to our core mission of building a more vibrant community.
